The function of the float is to replace the fuel the engine uses. The float bowl is large enough to supply enough fuer to run your engine at Max speed for an unlimited period of time. If the float is too low, not so much. I always set my floats on the low side. 1 11/32 is 1.344 & 1 3/8 is 1.375.On the primary I can insert a 5/16 inch bit under the outside end of the bowl before the end curve. On the secondary I can insert a 3/8 inch bit. So the primary end float setting is higher which goes along with my theory. I've Googled a lot and can not find any rebuild instructions for non-adjustable bowl 1850 carbs.I recently purchased a holley 600 0-80457-s and this model does not have any adjustment nuts and scews on the float bowls. Every holley needed some type of adjustment even a 570 street avenger has adjustments . I had a bit of an idle problem when it is cold but after it warms up its alright. It is very possible that the pressure is overriding the needle valve and allowing fuel to overflow the float bowl, and from there the fuel is being pushed out through the idle jet or even the main jet and flooding the carb.
