The seamoth is your small starter ship. Its max depth until upgraded is 200m , Mk1 hull mod takes it to 300m , mk2 mod goes to 500m and mk3 goes to 900m. Seamoth is more useful imo. I used it as my main vehicle for everything right down to it's max depth limit, for everything else I used Cyclops and Seaglide.
