The best thrall are the thralls you made along the way. Tessa the Blade for me. She was nearly useless but she was my first fighting thrall. I heard she was good once but was nerfed. As for best thrall, its best not to get too attached as it can be heartbreaking when you watch them die from poison or something daft.

I keep reading the best thralls are in the volcano. I have been there numerous times and never found more than a T3 fighter with the exception of an emissary who you can't tame. I'm not even looking for fighters but I need more high level crafting thralls. Once the NPC is knocked out, you will need to equip ropes. The easiest to get is a Fiber Binding. You can use this to tie to the NPC. From there, you need to manually drag them back to camp.
