I had been searching a long time for a good donor truck for an OM617 Mercedes turbo diesel swap. I had mostly been looking at pre-1995 Pickups with the gear-driven RF1A transfer case. While cruising Facebook Marketplace I stumbled on a semi-local 1986 Toyota 4Runner that had already been swapped with a 1985 OM617.The OM617.952 is rated at 125hp/181ft lbs. If I were able to achieve say, 200hp/250+ft lbs, I'd be a happy man. The thing is, it will take money- a lot more than the 5.2- and I'm not sure the added fuel economy would cancel out the initial investment quick enough to be worth it. Diesel is cooler. Magnum might be a better idea.

My experience was 22-24 mpg on diesel and WVO with no discernible difference in power between the two. Gearing, weight of the vehicle, tires size, mod's etc. are all going to play into the equation.
