Johnson outboard timing adjustment.
Had an ignition issue at end of last year and I replaced stator, timer base, powerpack and voltage regulator. Now, at idle forward it hovers around 650rpms which is great most of the time. However occasionally it dips down to 600rpms and wants to stall. No lean sneeze or anything this is not a carb issue. All throttle plates are closed at idle.
Setting ignition timing with a timing fixture on Evinrude, Gale and Johnson motors. Using a timing fixtures is a little less cumbersome than using film gaug... This is what i do to time my engine.
