The Duramax L5P was introduced in 2017 as a replacement for the LML. While the engine uses the same 6.6L design, many major engine components were completely refreshed in order to increase power as well as engine reliability. The L5P has made great reliability improvements and is, in my opinion, the most reliable diesel engine being produced today.Duramax engines typically have a firing order of 1-2-7-8-4-5-6-3. It helps to remember a few things. 1) The cylinders/pistons are numbered from "1" at the front of the engine to "8" at the back in the order that the piston rods connect to the crankshaft.
