My silver Oct made 77 with a 351M/C-6/NP-205 gets 80/90 gear oil in the xfer case. The "Shadow" told me to do it. lol. On my 78 I've run 50w motor oil and 80w90 gear oil in both the 435 transmission and the 205 case. I originally put 50w in both, but last time I had them out I switched to 80w90 in both.

First of all yes it will damage the transfer case with no oil in it or even low oil. if it is just a seal then it is easy to replace, but if it means splitting the transfer case this is not a job for the diy, unless you have experience with transmissions or transfer cases.

my trans takes 90wt oil..... and so does my np205 ..... bough 1 gallon of gear oil from autozone & a nifty hose that goes onto the 1 gallon jug... 1 gallon = $6.50 1 quart = $2.67 so buying the gallons is cheaper even with buying the $4 adapter..
