IT seems that the orignal owner had cobra pipes put on the bike and he basically left only 1 inch of the baffle in there ( pulled it today and measured it ).Diagnose the issue using the tests in the manual. Bike is a 2003 vulcan, 800 classic. Bike would stop running while cruising along about 70, and would not start again for a few minutes. Everytime it did this was about 7-10 miles after filling up with gas, could go another mile or two, and it would stop again, and again for a third time.This is because Kawasaki went and upgraded the oil pump from plastic to metal. The problem was most common on the Vulcan 1500 Classic models, and owners opted to replace the oil pump with a third-party one. Replacing the oil gear pump seems to solve the symptoms listed above. 2. Regulator/Rectifier Wears Early.Had same problem with my 800 stalling when releasing the clutch. My cure was to spray the switch with electrical safe penetrating oil, WD40. Its right were the kick stand pivots on the frame. ... I have a 2001 vulcan 800 standard. It sat up for several years and the tank rusted. We had the tank rotted and creamed. The bike will run for several weeks and then it floods. We have cleaned the carb several times. We put on an external fuel filter. The petcock has been cleaned and the carb rebuilt.
