My one piece of advice is to look up. Frost Caves are easiest to see from below. In fact, I have spotted a couple from another biome at the foot of the Mountains. I wasn't sure if they would ever spawn on an old world, so I started a new one after the update, and didn't have any trouble finding the caves.

We explored several mountains far from any previously explored area. We also looked at the map over at www.valheim-map.world where they should be and there are none at the marked locations.
