Make sure your Vitality is high for this build, as the Chikage slowly saps your HP while it is transformed. Set Bloodtinge to 50 to really revel in the power of this weapon. In my opinion the absolute best starter weapon is the saw cleaver. I started my first character with the axe, and just couldn't get into the moveset. After spending probably 5 hours stuck in yarhnam I made a new character with the cleaver and something just clicked. The cleaver has killer damage, hits quick, and has good reach when extended.
